This clay village is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Morocco. It is an ancient Kasbah, a walled Berber city designed to defend its surroundings: houses, farms and palm groves from potential invasion. Although there are many Kasbahs in Morocco, this is one of the best preserved examples. It is recognised as a World Heritage site and has been the setting of films such as Gladiator, The Mummy and Alexander the Great. Indeed, the region of Ouarzazate is known as the Moroccan Hollywood. This impressive construction is still inhabited by some families who have learnt to live with the abundant tourism in the area and offer tourists the best of Moroccan craft ware.
